The Dobson Museum & Home has entered a new chapter.

What began in 1972 as a local history museum has evolved into a modern, immersive experience designed to connect visitors more deeply with the people, places, and stories that shaped Ottawa County and Northeast Oklahoma.

To help introduce that transformation, the museum has released its new flagship film — a cinematic look inside the reimagined Dobson Museum experience.

The film highlights the museum’s renewed focus on storytelling, accessibility, and community connection while offering visitors a first look at exhibits and experiences throughout the museum.

From Route 66 and the Jefferson Highway to local industry, regional heritage, community artifacts, and the stories of the families who shaped this region, the museum’s collections now come to life in new and engaging ways.

The reimagined museum experience combines:

  • Expanded exhibit interpretation
  • Updated gallery presentation
  • Interactive storytelling
  • Regional transportation history
  • Ottawa County heritage
  • Community-focused preservation
  • Rotating exhibits and educational experiences

The film also reflects a central idea behind the museum’s revitalization: History should feel personal.

“The reimagined Dobson Museum & Home preserves more than artifacts — it preserves the stories, memories, and community spirit that continue to shape Ottawa County today.”

— Leanne Barlow, Bank of Oklahoma, Trustee

Visitors aren’t simply walking past artifacts. They’re stepping into the stories, memories, and experiences that helped shape the community around them.

Whether you’re a lifelong local resident, a Route 66 traveler, a student, a family, or someone discovering Ottawa County history for the first time, the Dobson Museum offers an experience designed to feel welcoming, meaningful, and memorable.

The museum invites visitors to experience the transformation firsthand.
