2026 at the Dobson: Seasonal Exhibits
Three exhibits. One historic home. A year worth exploring.
At the Dobson Museum, 2026 marks more than a reopening—it signals a renewed commitment to telling the stories that define Ottawa County and the people who call it home.
Following the grand reopening, the museum will host a series of thoughtfully curated quarterly exhibits—each offering a fresh perspective on local history, national milestones, and the evolving identity of the region.
Spring Exhibit (April–June) The Origins of the Museum
The first exhibit of the year looks inward—exploring how the Ottawa County Historical Society was formed and how the museum itself came to be.
Featuring some of the earliest artifacts in the collection, this exhibit provides a rare glimpse into the foundation of the institution and the individuals who helped preserve local history for future generations.
On display: April 9 – June 30
Summer Exhibit (July–Sept) Celebrating America in Ottawa County: 250
In recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, this exhibit highlights how patriotism has been expressed locally over time.
Through archival materials and artifacts—including reflections on the 1976 Bicentennial—visitors will see how national milestones take on unique meaning at the community level. The exhibit also features panels from Moments That Made Us, connecting local stories to the broader American experience.
On display: July 7 – September 30
Fall Exhibit (October–December) Centennial on the Mother Road
Few routes carry the cultural weight of Route 66—and Ottawa County has long been part of that story.
This exhibit captures 50 locations along the “Mother Road,” presenting a compelling then-and-now perspective. Newly commissioned photography brings these sites to life, offering visitors a visual journey through a century of change.
On display: October 6 – December 19
A Season of Giving (November–January) The Giving Trees
Returning again this year, the Giving Trees initiative invites visitors to support worthy organizations across Ottawa County during the holiday season.
Displayed throughout the museum, the trees serve as both a visual centerpiece and a reminder of the power of community.
On display: November 3, 2026 – January 16, 2027
Plan Your Visit
Whether you’re drawn to early artifacts, patriotic history, or the legacy of Route 66, each visit offers something new to discover.
The Dobson Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and welcomes visitors to explore at their own pace—with knowledgeable staff and docents ready to share stories along the way.
A Word of Thanks
“Bringing this year’s exhibits to life is truly a collective effort,” said Jordan Boyd, Museum Director. “We’re grateful to the Ottawa County Historical Society for their continued stewardship, to River Hill for her dedication behind the scenes, and to the many contributors, partners, and supporters who make this work possible. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing these stories together.”
Why It Matters
This year’s exhibit lineup does more than showcase history—it reinforces the museum’s role as a living, evolving connection point for the community.
Each exhibit is designed to deepen understanding, spark curiosity, and make local history feel a little more personal—and a little more relevant—every time you walk through the doors.
